Festbier (5.5%) - A Classic German Celebration Beer
Brewed with Voyager Craft Malt, hopped with Ryefield RH-01, and fermented with Fest II German Lager yeast from Mowai Labs, our latest release is as refined as it is drinkable. We gave this beer extra time in tank, letting the flavours meld into balance.
Tasting notes:
Toasty yet doughy with a soft sweetness and bready depth. The malt character shines with richness and complexity, balanced by a very light floral and cedar hop profile from RH-01. Well-attenuated and crisp, with a fuller body and a subtle matchstick sulphur that brings that unmistakable classic German lager feel.
A Beer Steeped in History
Festbier traces back to 1810, first brewed for the wedding of Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese - the event that sparked the original Oktoberfest. While those early beers resembled the stronger Märzen, modern golden Festbier was introduced in the 1970s as a lighter, more drinkable lager. Today, it’s the official beer served at Munich’s Oktoberfest, prized for its balance of malt depth and refreshing drinkability.
